Liposuction can help you feel more confident in your body. The procedure removes stubborn fat deposits that don't respond to diet and exercise. Proper preparation beforehand can be as important to your results as the surgery itself.
Here’s what we here at Dr. Brandon Plastic Surgery recommend you do in advance to help your procedure go smoothly, support healing, and make your recovery more comfortable.
Your preparation begins with a consultation at Dr. Brandon Plastic Surgery. This is your opportunity to discuss your goals, ask questions, and learn what results you can realistically expect. Dr. Brandon Elnekaveh reviews your medical history, medications, and any previous surgeries to ensure liposuction is a safe option for you.
At your appointment, be honest about tobacco or nicotine use, supplements, and any health conditions, as these can affect healing.
If you smoke or use nicotine products, our team asks that you stop several weeks before and after surgery. Nicotine restricts blood flow, which can increase the risk of complications and slow the healing process.
Dr. Brandon may also recommend temporarily stopping medications or supplements that can increase bleeding, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, or certain herbal products. Never discontinue prescription medications without first speaking with your healthcare provider.
In the weeks leading up to surgery, focus on healthy habits. Eat a balanced diet rich in lean protein, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and drink plenty of water. Staying active and maintaining a stable weight can also support a smoother recovery.
Liposuction is a body-contouring procedure. It’s not aimed at weight loss, so you want to be near your goal weight before undergoing surgery.
Preparing your home ahead of time can make recovery much easier. Fill any prescriptions before surgery, stock up on healthy meals and snacks, and create a comfortable place to rest.
Wear loose-fitting clothing to your appointment and be sure you've arranged for someone to drive you home and stay with you after your procedure, if needed.
You'll also receive a compression garment to wear after surgery. It helps minimize swelling, supports healing tissues, and encourages your body to adapt to its new shape. Follow Dr. Brandon’s instructions for wearing the garment, as it has a notable impact on your final results.
Finally, plan to give yourself time to recover. While you may be back to desk work within a few days, you'll need to avoid strenuous activity until Dr. Brandon says it's safe. We encourage gentle walking to promote circulation, but your body needs time to heal.
Proper preparation can help with your liposuction recovery. Here at Dr. Brandon Plastic Surgery, we want you to enjoy your results and the confidence your new contours bring. Contact the office for more information or to make an appointment.
